Washington Spirit Clinched a thrilling 2-1 victory over Portland Thorns in an EPIC National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) showdown.
Nigerian forward Gift Monday Started with a breakthrough performance, and Trinity Rodman’s Stoppage-Time winner sealed the deal.
Washington was Hungry to close the gap on league leaders KC Current, and they wasted no time asserting their intent. Gift Monday delivered in the 17th minute. Her run was surgical precise , and she side-footed the ball home with composure and class.This performance marked her official arrival as a force in the league.
Portland Thorns responded big time with Olivia Moultrie’s great strike in the 45+3 minute, but Washington Spirit stayed focused . The second half was a tackle battle, with both goalkeepers rising to the occasion.
Just when it looked like a stalemate , Trinity Rodman stepped up in the 90+2 minute. Her stoppage time winner was pure magic bursting through the midfield, dancing past her marker, and curling the ball into the far corner.
This win catapults Washington Spirit to second place in the NWSL standings with 26 points from 14 games. They’re still trailing KC Current by 10 points but this victory keeps them firmly in the title conversation.
