Gov. Eno Wins Football Friendly Governor Of The Year 2024

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has emerged Nigeria’s football friendly governor of the year 2024 at the 11th edition of the Nigeria Pitch Award.

In a short list that included Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu and former Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki, Governor Eno polled 109 points to better Sanwo Olu’s 87 points and Obaseki’s 30 points.

The Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey who received the award on behalf of the governor at the event held at the prestigious Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene, affirmed Akwa Ibom as the only state that supports four football clubs in the Nigeria league.

He went on to mention the support Governor Umo Eno has extended to the Super Eagles and all the Nigerian clubs that have used the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo as their home ground during continental assignments.

“Just yesterday, His Excellency mobilized all Nigerians to the Nest of Champions by picking up the cost of the 30,000 capacity stadium and the Nigeria Football Federation lauded the gesture as the stadium was filled to capacity” Elder Bassey said.

In another development the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo was voted Pitch of the Year 2024 with 166 points, beating Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne that polled 73 and Onikan stadium, Lagos with 39 points.

Again Bassey praised the governor for sustaining the maintenance culture of his predecessors in guaranteeing that the stadium remains not only the best in the country but one of the best in the world in the last eleven years.

The ThisDay Newspaper Governor of the Year, Pastor Umo Eno received the awards today, presented to him by the Sports Commissioner during the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House Uyo and promised to invest more into sports development in the state.
