Gov. Zulum And Borno Palliative Distribution, Reaction And Impact

Tahiru Bala

Palliative distribution to vulnerable citizens in Borno state is not a new exercise looking at where we came from and passed through in terms of the insurgency experienced by Borno state being in the eye of the storm.

Many local government inhabitants were at a point in time displaced by the horrific activities of Boko Haram without farming, thus forcing them to settle in various IDP Camps within and outside the state.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum organized his Palliatives to all the camps then and went extra mile to travel to the hot spots and distributed his Palliatives to those who stayed back in their local government areas, as well as those in IDP Camps.

Several lovers of Gov. Zulum were afraid of the visits he made to remote villages in his brave move to reach his people with Palliatives, the Gov. put everything in the hands of Allah to do away with anything fear in the discharge of his duties, I was also afraid for him at that time when he was frequenting remote areas of Borno with Palliatives.

He was not deterred from doing what he swore to do for the people of Borno state,  Zulum carried out several rounds of Palliative distribution recently before we got to the recent development where all tiers of Government focus their attention on distribution of palliatives due to the hardship and rising cost of living caused by the economic down turn experienced in Nigeria and globally.

Tennis players from Delta
Coming to talk of the current distribution of Palliatives in the Elkanemi warriors sports center Maiduguri,  l went to the stadium with my signed and stamped form to collect my share of the Palliatives, on reaching the stadium I saw a beautiful arrangement of bags of Rice, Millet and Corn covering the entire football pitch of Elkanemi

Warriors sports center. I was moved by the arrangement and as a journalist I said to myself this Palliatives distribution with Governor Zulum personally doing the needful should be shared live with my Facebook friends which I did for the opening day one and two of MMC /JERE distribution of food Palliatives to 100,000 household.

In the course of covering the event live on facebook, I captured for my friends men, women, and parents, smiling home with their shares.

I saw those that cannot even carry the two bags and had to be helped out.
All those I interviewed after collecting their bags showered praises on the Executive Governor of Borno state, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, praying Allah to guide and protect him.

All hands were on deck during the distribution exercise, as the organizing committee was seen busy doing their best to see to the smooth conduct of the Palliatives distribution.

The few names I can remember that I saw giving their best under the hectic and hot weather, are our Senator Kaka shehu Lawan, House of Rep. Member Abdulkadir Rahis. Not forgotten is the hard working Commissioner of Youth Sports and Poverty Alleviation,  Sainna Buba with his permanent secretary Dr. Mailafiya who hosted the event in the sports center.

The Governor’s ADC and youth leader Babban Doki were
also seen doing their best in the exercise.

*REACTIONS.
The distribution was done and those ward- heads and political class tried as humans.
As I was writing this peace Alansar radio program caller from Fezzan ward on monday around 10:20am said “We are satisfied with the distribution in Fezzan ward under our Lawan Muhammad Zanna mala”.
Generally speaking, most of the people i spoke to have received their own Palliatives, those who didn’t are expecting their shares soonest.

The paused in distribution is expected to resume soon after making some improvements on observed faults.
People are happy that Borno state Governor, Professor, Babagana Umara Zulum doesn’t tolerate injustice to weaker persons or anybody.

People are confident that the untiring governor will ensure that every family gets it’s share in a just and fair manner.

*IMPACTS.

The Palliatives distributed has reached those it was meant for, majority of them received the two bags that turned out to be a stitch in time as Ramadan fast is by the corner.
In preparation for the worship of Allah, the intention to perform the obligatory Ramadan fast became evident in every corner of Maiduguri, where you will see crowd of people in ques trying to thresh or prepare the Millet received as Palliatives from Professor Babagana Umara Zulum’s distribution.

Looking at the impact which  very glaring, as beneficiaries cut across all faiths, the Palliatives distribution knows no tribe, religion or political affiliation.

While some beneficiaries are at the threshing machine quest to prepare “Mordam” or Millet- porridge requirements, some are busy making Millet flour for preparing food, the impact is seen everywhere in the metropolitan area. Maiduguri and Jere will be completed after resumption of jere distribution. Kudus to our people’s Governor for coming to our aid in this period of economic down turn.
