It was all smiles, appreciation and fulfilment visibly radiating on the faces of grassroots and academy coaches and owners alike at the PFA Secretariat yesterday as the Plateau State Football Association ably led by Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande doled out the three million naira given to some grassroots teams/academies by Super Eagles Captain, Ahmed Musa.
Speaking while doling out the cash to the teams, the Plateau State Football Association Chairman, Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande said “I need to first and foremost salute our dear Super Eagles captain for his benevolence and kind-heartedness. We just invited him here alongside other players from Plateau State based outside Nigeria to come and talk to these little boys as role models, motivate them and charged them for more seriousness to their chosen career, but Captain Ahmed Musa surprised us all even the children and their coaches with this financial gifts to the teams. My message here is, Coaches and club owners, it should be noted that Ahmed Musa wouldn’t have shown up and gave you all this money if he doesn’t believe in our leadership of football in the State, hence, you all should reciprocate and abide with all the rules and regulations set on ground by the PFA. It will not be busy as usual as we will clamp down heavily on clubs that default. We want to make football so professional and a win win thing for all, and to attain this, all hands must be on deck.”
Responding on behalf of all the beneficiaries, Patron of Yard football club, Nde Sati D Kassam, said: “This is the first time we are seeing this on the Plateau. We thank Ahmed Musa for motivating some of us to do more in discovering players like him with this his kind gesture giving each team #300,000.”
Nde Kassam, a retired Deputy Comptroller of Immigration, who is also a former Diplomat to Hong Kong, continued: “We need to as a matter of fact give kudos to the PFA led by Hon Suleiman Kwande, if not for them, these clubs here wouldn’t have received this huge amount of money courtesy of our Super Eagles Captain, how i wish other players can replicate same. This PFA is a talk and do football association.”
On his own part, the Chief Coach of Elkanemi Juniors, Coach Sani Chaji, “I’m short of words. This is the first time we are experiencing this in Plateau State. I have been in the coaching system for the past three decades and not such has been done. This singular act of Ahmed Musa will not only ginger the Coaches to work harder, but also force the players to be more serious and committed to the game more than before. This kid gesture from Ahmed Musa is really motivating and inspiring.”
It would be recalled that Ahmed Musa was on ground to motivate the Under-15 lads when the Cornerflag Connections Ltd and Plateau State Football Association Scouting Tournament took place and moved with what he saw as it concerns the potentials in the boys which need some training facilities to better it, gave the whole ten teams for the scouting program #300,000 each, which according to him will help them in acquiring balls, and other very important training facilities for better performance and output.
