Women of Ibeno Local Government Area have expressed worry over non inclusion of their sons and daughters in the present Akwa State Executive Council.
They appealed to Governor Umo Eno to consider them in many appointments in the state.
The National Chairperson of Ibeno Youth Women Leaders Forum, Lady Maureen Anthony Effiong told newsmen in Ibeno recently that the Local Government Area is not carried along in major appointments in the state, lamenting that they are marginalised politically.
She recalled that Ibeno people voted massively for Governor Umo Eno and other PDP candidates in the last election and believed that at least an indigene of the area should be appointed into the State Executive Council and boards
The Youth Women leader noted that because of the political imbalance they experienced in the area, there is absolute need for them to be given their rightful place in the scheme of things in the state.
She called for the creation of Obolo State, believing that Ibeno and the entire Obolo people would have a sense belonging in the country.
According to her, ” if truly we are part of Akwa Ibom State, we need a Commissioner in the State Exco, we need Ibeno State Constituency, we also need Obolo Federal Constituency and Obolo Senatorial District and we are solidly behind our Paramount Ruler Owong, Prof Effiong Bassey Archianga”.
She said further, ” we join our Paramount Ruler, Owong Prof Effiong Bassey Archianga to demand for Obolo State and other constituencies of our own so that we will have rapid development in our area”.
Her words, ” we kick against the state remapping law done by the immediate past government and we plead for the release of Namdi Kanu”.
Lady Effiong used the medium to appeal to Government and ExxonMobil in particular to employ and also train Ibeno youths to help reduce unemployment and social vicies in the area.
Her other requests include, provision of scholarship for Ibeno students in tertiary Institutions as well as provision of portable water for healthy living.
On the recent massive Oil Spill in the water ways of Ibeno Local Government Area, she called on the federal and state governments to come to their aid by pressing on the international company, the ExxonMobil to obey the law and embark on immediate clean-up exercise for a safety environment and health of the people of Ibeno.
