The executive of Akwa Ibom State Beach Soccer Committee on Thursday paid a courtesy call on the Chairman, Futsal and Beach Soccer Sub-Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Otuekong Nse Essien.
The courtesy call which also had in attendance members of Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKSFA), took place at the Uyo township stadium.
Speaking, the Coordinator of Akwa Ibom State Beach Soccer Committee, Mr. Oto Ekanem, said they came to congratulate Otuekong Nse Essien over his recent appointment as Chairman, Futsal and Beach of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Apart from celebrating him, Mr. Ekanem said the meeting was to avail them the opportunity of outlining some of the challenges facing the game as well as appealed to the NFF Futsal and Beach Soccer Chairman to come to their aid.
In his words, “We came here to congratulate and to brief you on some of our challenges as well as notify you on our line of actions towards the development of the game.”
Oto Ekanem disclosed some aims and objectives of the game to include: adding value to football players, bringing tourism attraction into the State, serving as vista for the youth, exposing local players to international level, etc.
Responding, the NFF Chairman, Futsal and Beach Soccer Sub-Committee, Otuekong Nse Essien said the game has come to stay and that Nigeria Football Federation will do everything possible to ensure the game grow in the country.
He said is mandate is to organize and supervise all futsal and beach soccer competitions, noting that his new assignment is targeted at developing talents through the game.
He urged the Beach Soccer Committee to work in partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, assuring that the game will develop beyond expectations.
While hinting that a strong team will be formed in the State to compete with others, Otuekong Nse Essien further added that his intention is to make Futsal and Beach Soccer a known sports across the country.
According to him, “I must commend you people for nurturing the beach soccer game until it got to this point. We have to present a strong team so we can compete anywhere.”
Also speaking, the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKSFA), Mr. Samuel Umoh, pledged to work with the Akwa Ibom Beach Soccer Committee.
Umoh, promised to carry them along in all scheme of things as far as the game is concerned.
Some members of Akwa Ibom State Beach Committee who were present at the courtesy call were: King Akanimo, Organizing Secretary, John Ekpenyong, Welfare and Emmanuel Akpan, who is the Head of Media.
