The Imo State Commissioner for Sports Development, Honourable Obinna Onyeocha, has officially announced the funeral arrangements for his late mother, Lolo Ezinne Emilia Akueze Onyeocha (Nwanyi-Oma), née Ekezie, who passed away recently.
In a statement issued from his office at the Ministry of Sports Development, Imo State Secretariat, Owerri, and addressed to the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, Onyeocha expressed deep sorrow over the loss but noted that the family has taken solace in the exemplary and godly life their matriarch lived.
According to the announcement, Lolo Emilia Onyeocha will be laid to rest on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the compound of Late Chief Matthew Onyeocha in Umutanze, Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State. Before the interment, a funeral Mass will be held in her honour at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Umutanze, also in Orlu Local Government Area.
Hon. Onyeocha described his late mother as “a virtuous woman, loving mother, and devoted Christian who lived a life of faith, kindness, and selfless service to humanity.” He added that her humility, wisdom, and charitable acts left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Family members, friends, associates, and well-wishers have been invited to celebrate her life and pay their final respects. Tributes, prayers, and condolences may be sent via email to obinnaevaristus54@gmail.com.
“Though she is gone from our sight, she will forever remain in our hearts,” the statement concluded, praying for the repose of her gentle and loving soul.
