It is now an open secret that upon his inauguration, the Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia inherited a completely ravaged system which he is diligently trying to fix for the collective good of the people.
Among the government institutions worst hit by the destructive agents of the past administration is no doubt the state owned football club, Lobi Stars football club which is still under the jungle boot of a tyrant called Dominic Iorfa.
The former Nigerian international is obviously the worst thing that has happened to the darling club of Benue people because he has proved in words and deeds that he is only after self aggrandizement and not the interest of the club.
His financial recklessness and brazen impunity are next to none from non payment of salaries despite a monthly allocation of over N50m, to indiscriminate sacking of duly employed staff, illegal sale of club properties, and acts of insubordination, Iorfa has proved to be a mindless plunderer.
It is against this background of Iorfa’s corrupt practices and total disregard for constituted authority that one wonders why it is taking His Excellency long to give him the boot, even as it is also obvious that the governor is unhappy with Iorfa’s financial recklessness and primordial behaviour.
For the good of Lobi Stars, I want to make another clarion call on Governor Hyacinth Alia to as a matter of urgency intervene and save the club in the hands of the man who is hell bent on running it aground for no justifiable reason.
It is pertinent to reiterate that Iorfa has resorted to taking dubious actions to destroy what is left of Lobi Stars after his endless looting in order to create take-off problems for his successor. These unholy practices include selling off the best players in Lobi Stars to rival clubs when he knows very well that the time for recruitment is fast running out, withdrawal of club training kits which he has vowed never to submit to his successor, the sale of two operational vehicles and unnecessary borrowings just to plunge the club into more debts.
To buttress one of the numerous sins of Iorfa listed above, let me inform all concerned Benue people that some of our best players already sold by Iorfa are, star striker Joseph Atule Jnr to Enyimba Int’l, Abba Umar and Anas Hassan to Wikki Tourists, Monday Akile to Rivers United and he is presently putting pressure on former Nigerian international, Orji Kalu, and others to leave.
In view of the above, I most humbly call on Governor Alia to please go beyond his body language of outright rejection of the egoistic Iorfa and wield the big stick immediately to save Lobi Stars from the land mines being planted by the serial failure.
And I repeat, A STICH IN TIME SAVES NINE.
