The ongoing International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour Junior J60 in Abuja on Wednesday reaches the round of 16 stages in both males and females singles category in Abuja.
Ayomide Oduwaye , Seyi Ogunsakin , Isreal Adeosi and Goodnews Aina were among players that scale to round of 16.
The reports that Oduwaye defeated Dayok Shimankinaan 6-3, 6-1 in a male singles round of 32 encounter.
While,Ogunsakin’s player was clearly a delight to watch when he played
on the front foot early in the match as
he took the lead in the first set 7-6 against Hussein Toyeeb .
As he roaring in the second set to make it 6-4 to end the game.
Also, Adeosi pulled a stunning comeback victory from the brinks of one set down to win Kingsley Alormenu 6-7,6-3,6-1 .
While the pair of Oduwaye and Aina Henry also crashed out of the males doubles event after losing 4-6,4-6 to
the duo of Great Britain’s Kyle Babbage and Lucky Danjuma
in the round of 16.
In the females singles round of 32 fixtures, Goodnews Aina humbled Eliana Chrys- chikere from Australia 6-3,6-3.
In the female’s doubles event, the pair of Fego Ayetuoma and Adesewa Olaniyan beat the duo of Bisola Ogunkolade and Philipina Sewornu from Ghana 6-7,6-7 to advanced to the quarter-finals stage.
Speaking after the match, Oduwaye said that this is my first match today and I won. I am happy for winning this round of 32 match and advancing to the round of 16 stage.
“ I put on a fantastic displayed although the first set was a tough one compared to the second sets as Shimankinaan fought hard time in the single but I lost my doubles events today.
“ My target is to lift the trophy in this event because in the just concluded ITF World Tennis Tour Junior J30 , I lost in the quarter finals to Ezekiel Azi by 2-6,3-6 and I want to supersede by lifting the trophy,” he said .
On his part, Ogunsakin said that I finally got through by displaying a splendid performance ,withstanding Toyeeb pressure by winning 7-6 .
Ending Toyeeb’s hope of advancing beyond the round of 16.I hope to lift the trophy.
Similarly, Adeosi said that this is my first time participating and I hope to lift the trophy.
reports that the tour which started on Wednesday is expected to end on Sunday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
reports that six countries,Nigeria (host) , Ghana, Great Britain, Australia, China and Benin Republic. are participating in the ongoing championship.
