The 2025 Head of the Lagos state head of Service Games is set to be the most competitive yet, with over 100 football teams ready for action and a new Premier League pathway on the horizon. The official draw ceremony, held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, saw an unprecedented 103 teams participate – 82 men’s teams and 21 women’s teams.
The Technical Committee Chairman, Mr. Uthman Okunu, expressed his delight at the overwhelming interest in the football category. For the first time, teams will enjoy home and away matches, a request made by participants in previous editions. The competition structure includes two-legged fixtures in the group stage, with the top 64 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams qualifying for the second round.
A major highlight is the introduction of the Head of Service Premier League, backed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro. The league will feature the top 20 male teams and top 10 female teams from this year’s HOS Games, aiming to institutionalize sporting excellence within the civil service structure.
The games will feature a range of sports, including Chess, Ayo, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Tennis, and Tug of War. The Health Service Commission (HSC) and the Public Service Office (PSO) are the defending champions in the men’s and women’s football categories, respectively.
The 2025 Head of Service Games promises to promote unity, wellness, and excellence within the Lagos State public sector, showcasing the growing popularity of intra-service sports.
