Olushola Ogunnowo, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) Nationwide League has expressed satisfaction with perfect execution of the first match of the division two U-19 Youth League season.

In the opening game, G-Medix FC whitewashed Olympic Hybrid FC by 5 goals to nothing in a match played at the Nyanya Stadium Abuja on Friday.

He said, “The match featured under-19 boys who delivered an impressive performance, delighting the spectators. With over 2,000 people in attendance, the event was a success, and the livestream garnered positive comments. NLO has partnered with notable brands like MTN, AfrikScout, and Sofa Score. The league aims to bring football to local communities, with the first match in Nyanya being a milestone.

“And you can imagine how the second game and subsequent matches will be if this is the first impression. Some teams failed to meet registration deadlines, prompting NLO to rejig fixtures based on compliance of teams.

“NLO targets increased youth participation, with a 10-year master plan to reach 1,000 football clubs across Nigeria. Our aim is to engage more young players in organized football, currently estimated to be around 10-20% of potential participants.

“The league has increased the number of teams from 8 to 16 per state, promoting grassroots football development.

Ogunnowo said NLO emphasizes adherence to registration deadlines and rules to ensure a smooth, professional league operation.
