Ngerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to qualify for the 2026 World Cup via the playoffs. The team faces Gabon in their first playoff match in Rabat, Morocco. Despite the team’s underwhelming start to the qualifying campaign, Okocha believes they can still achieve their goal.
”I still trust this team, I still believe it’s possible,” Okocha said, drawing from his experience playing in three World Cups. “We put ourselves in this situation, and we are the only ones who can bring ourselves out of it.”
Okocha acknowledged the challenges ahead but emphasized the unpredictability of football. “Once there is a glimmer of hope, of course I will believe. That’s the beauty of football. Sometimes you have to do it the hard way. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.”
Ultimately, Okocha believes it’s up to the players to deliver. “The players feel it the most. It’s their job, and they don’t have any other job at the moment. Of course, they would all love to play in the World Cup.”
