Pinnick, Board Members Write FIFA to Extend Tenure, FG, Stakeholders Kick Against Tenure Extension

With September 2022 already billed as the month scheduled for elections into various positions at the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), the threat to the successful staging of the polls have been quite palpable for a while now.

Combustion gases from the Chimney has it that current Board of the Nigeria Football Federation led by President Amaju Pinnick have made a plea to FIFA for the Board to remain for at least one more year till 2023, citing legal litigations as the clog disrupting the scheduled September 2022 elections.

It is believed that Amaju Pinnick, using his close ties at FIFa, has made an application to the football governing body for an extension of the tenure of the current board. If this goes through, it implies there will be no election this year, as inroads are already being made at FIFA, to see to this.

The NFF were dragged to a Bayelsa Federal High Court by a Board member of Nembe City football club, challenging the legality of the last NFF Elections. It is on the back of this, the Amaju Pinnick led board are believed to be tying their hope of an extension.

A failure to stage the September 2022 election is cast in stone to be a major catastrophe for Nigerian football because to the apprehension that would come with this. This move of a tenure extension is set to open a period of what might be endless crises. With this seeming disruption of the Nigerian Football polity, there would be dissenting voices and a total break down of what has been built.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development headed by Hon. Sunday Dare got a snippet into the grand plot of not holding the NFF Elections and knowing the implications this would have on Nigerian Football, the Minister swung into action to ensure proceedings go as there should at the Glass House.

Sunday Dare reiterated the need for activities to run as expected at the Glass House, so as to ensure Nigerian Football is not thrown into anarchy and crisis.

It’s believed that the litigation against the NFF domiciled in the Bayelsa court is to be withdrawn to pave way for the Executive Committee of the NFF to immediately convene an Emergency General Assembly of the Federation. It is from the General Assembly, the NFF Congress would discuss modalities in compliance with the NFF Statutes.
