Pre-Olympic Wrestling: 6 Wrestlers Depart For Serbia

 

Six women wrestlers departed the country on Saturday night for the forthcoming World Wrestling Championship in Belgrade which will serve as a Pre-Olympic qualifier.

Olympic Silver medalist Blessing Oborududu and World Silver medalist Odunayo Adekuoroye top the list of wrestlers to the world championship.

Also on the list are; the 2022 Commonwealth gold medalist, Mercy Genesis, World Junior Bronze medalist, Esther Kolawole, African Silver medalist, Hannah Reuben and African Silver medalist, Christiana Ogunsanya.

Speaking before their departure in Abuja, Secretary of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation Haruna Ilerika Maiginsanmo said the federation has done well in motivating the athletes for the championship.

Earlier, Purity Akuh, national wrestling coach, assured on the readiness of the team to make Nigeria proud and bring back medals.

He said the team had prepared well for the championships, which also serves as the first qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“This is the first Olympics qualifiers and I am very optimistic. With our preparations, by the grace of God we will make Nigeria proud, make the federation proud and bring back medals,” he said.
