REMEMBERING A SON, A COLLEAGUE AND A GREAT FRIEND

By MOHAMMED

Innalillahi wa inailaihi rajiuna
May Allahu SWT forgive him his
sins;
May He grant him comfort in his
grave;
May He reward his efforts;
And may He guide, protect and
provide for those he left behind.
Aamin.
About twenty years ago or
thereabout, it was a sunny early
Saturday morning and I had just
packed into my new area of
residence, Lugbe. I took a stroll
around up to a football field at
a location popularly known as
Berger. It appears a football
competition is on, so I decided
to watch. After the end of the 1st
match, the 2nd one and later the 3rd one followed until four matches were played. I noticed
four young Referees (two males and two females) rotating roles and functions to officiate the four matches that Saturday. After the matches later in the evening, I
approached them,commend their
efforts, addressed their
weaknesses and advised them
on how to translate these liabilities in their shortcomings into a fruitful and rewarding assets.
Fortunately, except for one of the
two males who lives in the
central areas of Abuja, the other
three lives around my house. And
since then, for over two decades
now, we had related as friends, brothers and colleagues with
late PROMISE NNADOZIE
UWAEME who was one of
those four young Referees I
had the opportunity to encounter
and befriended over these years.
May his soul rest in peace.
DEATH, definitely, is a reality and a debt everyone owed and must be paid. It is always our wish to live and enjoy this
temporary life as long as possible, if not till eternity itself, yet we all have an appointed date and time with Allahu
(SWT) to return to Him. The
date and time is sacrosanct; it
is Allah’s decree and remained
solely His to decide the place,
time and mode.
The Late PROMISE
NNADOZIE UWAEME must
have loved to remained with us;
we do love to continue to have
him with us, yet his appointed
date and time with hiscreator
arrived, and the Angel of Death
came and took him away. May
Allah forgivehim his sins and
reward his efforts.
Alhamdhulillah and
Astaghfirullah for and on behalf
of him for a fulfilled life. As a
man of many attributes, he is
good to be with, may he be good
in the sight of AllahuSWT to
earn a comfortable stay in the
grave and a fruitful passage to
Heaven,Aamin.
PROMISE UWAEME is a great
young and intelligent as well as
hardworking manwho strife to
be understood: he is caring and
loving, yet he is just, fair and
tried toensure equity; though he
is not perfect, no one is and no
one can be except Ta’ala, yet in
trying to exhibit these qualities,
he explored truthfulness as a
platform ofinteractions;
however, he is human and must
have err or crossed our path in
hisrelationship with one or few
of us. He never craved to be
liked but wanted to be
understood irrespective of how
one feels about him. He is blunt
to a fault and always bare his mind on issues the way he
sees and feels it, which many
interprets as ARROGANCE.
Let us find a place in our hearts
WHOLLY to forgive him at
whatever point we feel offended
by his posture, and continue to
pray for him.
His death and those of many of
our friends, colleagues and
relations are sermons and lessons
to all of us: sermons because
they should awaken us from our
follies and tellus vividly that
one day, sooner or later, it will
definitely be our turn; and
lessons,because it will come
unannounced.
Therefore, we must endeavor to
mend our ways and relationship
with ourselves so asto erase the
BURDEN OF GRUDGE in our
graves and before Allahu Ta’ala.
If PROMISE UWAEME has had
the notice of his pending death,
he would not only endeavor to
reach out to each of us and seek
OUR FORGIVENESS, but will
equally devote his last hours to
seek the pleasures of SWT; he
never had that chance to know
and plan for the coming of his
death and none will be granted
that privilege; why don’t we then prepare for this UNCERTAINTY through our
daily life in our interactions
with our environment.
PROMISE UWAEME’s death and that of many others who were our colleagues, brothers and friends are great losses to me, to you, to the entire football
family and the nation.
May HE REST IN PEACE and
may Allah grant his relations,
friends and colleagues the
fortitude to continue to bear the
loss. And when ours come, may
we encounter Allahu SWT’s love,
favors and blessings; may his
(PROMISE UWAEME) and ours
be a fruitful and rewarding end in
the sight of SWT, Aamin Ya
Rabbi.
