Shuaibu Target continental Slot For Bendel Insurance

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, on Thursday said the reposition of Bendel Insurance to Nigeria professional Football League (NPFL) by Edo State government is Already paying off.

Shuaibu who visit Nigeria Football Federation Secretariat yesterday said when we took over, the government of Edo state we realized there were well over 300 Bendel insurance management staff who were on the payroll of the state coffers receiving regular monthly salary as at when due, while the players were being subjected to 18-19 months of unpaid backlogs of their monthly remuneration which led to the termination of that management team.

Edo Deputy Gov explained further the new management team of 15 staff set up to take charge ensured salaries of players were jacked up from the 40 thousand naira the least earning player was entitled to, to 150 thousand naira. And by the time the club gained promotion to the NPFL, the start off salary for every player was 350 thousand naira, with a benchmark of 1million naira, which comes with an upward review after a proper assessment or an evaluation that is purely performance driven.

“Our investments is paying off, and also, what we want from the club, we are gradually getting it. when we rebranded Bendel insurance four years ago, we were sure of what we wanted to achieve”

“The most important part is that, before we came in, they were having an overhead of over 300million, they were paying the players over 40 thousand naira monthly and most time, they were owing them 18 to 19 months backlog of salaries, but the 300 staff were having their salaries as at when due but the players they were managing were not being paid, so we have to start following the rules of the NNL, the least paid player then became a 150, from 40k we raised it to 150k, and they get their salaries on or before the 24th of every month and we have never defaulted”

“When we got promoted to the NPFL, we raised it to 350k per the least paid player and we have a ceiling of 1million, so your start in Bendel insurance is 350k and it can get to 1million according to your performance, so every month we evaluate you. if you do well this month and don’t do well next month, your salary drops. so it is performance driven”

Bendel insurance have remained unbeaten in this year’s abridged version of the Nigeria professional Football League, and as they head towards the Super 6 where the winner of this year’s NPFL will be decided, Governor Philip Shuaibu is targeting a continental slot for Bendel insurance as one of the Nigerian clubs that will hoist the country’s flag on the continent playing in the CAF champions league.

“Actually, our target for this season was to come in and just consolidate on the premier league and fortunately for us, we have qualified for the super 6, so that means playing in the champions league is possible and our target now is to play in the champions league”
