The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who is contesting as a Presidential candidate in the Nigerian Sports Federations elections, has pledged to build on the successes of the Wrestling Federation while driving grassroots development, increasing visibility, and supporting initiatives that strengthen Nigeria’s overall sports ecosystem.
Appearing before the Electoral Committee of the National Sports Commission, Adeniyi emphasized his commitment to expanding the reach of wrestling through stronger sponsorships, improved organisation, and elevating the sport to a truly national level.
Adeniyi, who has made notable contributions to the development of various sports, stated that he hopes to serve in a federation where he can make a meaningful impact and foster peace and unity within the sporting community.
“I really commended the Sports Commission for ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process and stressed the importance of unity and collaboration among board members.
“This process provides a great opportunity for federation leaders to connect with the Commission, the Committee, and Nigerians at large, to share their vision for the future.”
He further underscored the need to shift focus from internal politics to meaningful reforms and athlete development. His agenda highlights key areas such as managing the transition of ageing champions, strengthening grassroots development, and leveraging platforms like NUGA and the National Youth Games to identify and nurture young talents.
Adeniyi said his ambition is to strengthen Nigeria’s sporting potential through wrestling and contribute meaningfully to the country’s broader sports development.
