TIG Commits to Advancing Sports in Nigeria

In a demonstration of its dedication to hard work, Tony Asuquo Gymnastic (TIG) convened its athletes on Saturday to celebrate their achievements at the recent National Youth Games (NYG). Out of a total of 15 medals, TIG athletes claimed an impressive 13 for their respective states.

During a press conference, TIG founder Tony Asuquo praised the young athletes representing their teams and described their performance as exceptional. He expressed his willingness to contribute to the development of Nigerian sports if given the opportunity.

“We are here to honor our athletes who have proudly represented Nigeria on international stages. At the NYG in Asaba, TIG represented five states and secured 13 of the 16 medals available at the event,” Asuquo stated.

“TIG gymnastic club has made significant progress, thanks to our devoted coaches. We have carefully designed our training programs and adhere to a rigorous schedule, practicing 6 to 7 hours daily, except on Sundays.

“The girls here are training hard with the Olympic Games in mind. TIG boasts a variety of athletes capable of winning medals for Nigeria in any competition.

“If these talented children are given the opportunity, they can achieve even more for Nigeria, despite the challenges posed by the system. We remain steadfastly committed to advancing Nigerian sports.

“While our athletes delivered impressive performances, we faced challenges with equipment, having to cope with broken mats and injuries.”

He called for a more comprehensive approach and fair officiating in sports, emphasizing that proper officiating can foster growth in Nigerian athletics.

Addressing some of the issues facing Nigerian sports, Coach Asuquo encouraged federations to focus on grassroots development programs and ensure that qualified individuals are involved in sports administration.

“The sports sector must prioritize physical preparation from the local to the national level. It’s essential to revitalize athlete sponsorship in Nigeria as well as provide necessary equipment and facilities for athletes to thrive.
