Nigeria Para-Shooting Federation is set to host her first activity in the year with states expected to send in their representatives to the seminar to prepare them for roles in the sport expected to be the nation’s biggest medal haul in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

Speaking with www.gongnews.net in her Abuja office, the Secretary General of the Federation, Dr. Irene Ojiugo Patrick-Ogbogu, said, “letters have been dispatched to all the 36 states and the FCT inviting them to the seminar. We are expecting nothing less than 30 states at the event. Participants will be exposed to the rules and structures of the sport and will be expected to return home to replicate the issues.”

According to her, “we have commenced training in Abuja and want to ensure that the training programmes are well assimilated and disseminated to all states of the federation. We shall be the biggest revelation in Tokyo with the kind of plans we have laid down which we shall pursue and implement to the letter.”

The seminar and many new innovations that will be revealed to the nation in a couple of weeks are being worked out with the massive support of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Disability, Dr Samuel Ankeli who has thrown his weight behind us.

Asked how she came into the sport which is regarded as dangerous, Dr Patrick-Ogbogu said, “being a female shooter is probably one of the things I love most about my life, it’s a sport I love with all my heart, it’s a sport that defies age, gender, disability, social status etc. Just from engaging in the shooting sport, one learns calmness, patience, focus, discipline and how to compartmentalise.

“I started shooting just to dispel the stereotypes of what is considered a male/female sport, but I’ve suddenly developed a competitive streak in me, now I want to win medals via shooting for my dear country come Tokyo 2020, and win I shall…all gold. Shooting is so sexy and exciting, I love it!
