John Utaka, the newly appointed head coach of Montpellier Féminines, has expressed his interest in leading the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles. Speaking to Brila FM after his appointment in France, Utaka stated that he would be glad to take on the role if the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) approaches him.
Utaka had previously applied for the Flying Eagles coaching role but lost out to Aliyu Zubairu.
Utaka was recently named head coach of Montpellier Féminines in the French Division 1 Féminine.
Utaka emphasized that his focus would be on coaching the players to their maximum potential, saying, “If the NFF calls me, I’ll be glad to come. The job is to coach the players to the maximum.”
Utaka earned 48 caps for Nigeria and scored six goals.
He was part of the squad that finished third at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia and represented the country at the 2002 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.
