The country’s number one female player told our correspondent after the victory that she has her eyes fixed on the remaining championships, the Davnotch national open and the CBN championships holding this week and next week.
“I am ready. The result I achieved today is result of hardwork and commitment. Aiyegbusi gave me agood game but I don’t see her posing any problem in subsequent tournaments,” she said.
Elsewhere in the final also decided at the weekend, David Ekpeyoung threw a chance to record his first major national championship by losing to doubles partner Uche Opraoji 6/4 1/6 6/64.
The Nigerian junior international began the match on a good note before he lost it to the much more experienced Oparaoji.
He later said he would make up for it in subsequent tournaments, the Davnotch Open and CBN championships.
Speaking at the end of the tourney, President Nigeria Tennis Federation NTF, Engineer Dayo Akindoju said he was impressed with the turnout of events especially the improvement of the younger players like Ekpeyoung, Usman and Adeyemi who all got to the semifinals and finals of the championship.
He disclosed that the two finalists, Ekpeyoung and Oparaoji will automatically represent Nigeria at the Davis Cup slated for July.
