The Secretary General of Nigeria Tennis Federation ( NTF) Shammah Makpa has expressed optimism that Nigeria Wheelchair Tennis team will pick African qualifiers tickets in both male and female category to represent Africa in Turkey later in the year..
He made this disclosure that the 2024 BNP Paribas World Team Cup wheelchair Tennis African qualification events which started on wednesday is expected to end on Sunday in Abuja.
Speaking further, Makpa said that the Tournament BNP Paribas World Team Cup wheelchair Tennis African qualification events is an African qualification event where African countries come together to compete to qualify for the World Cup.
He said that the winner in each category male and female will be the one to represent Africa at the World team finals in May.
There are 10 Countries participating in this year qualifies , Nigeria ( host) ,Egypt , Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius ,Morocco, Rwanda,South Africa and Tanzania.
According to him, Nigeria teams are a formidable force to be reckoned with in Africa’s Wheelchair Tennis.
In 2023, we hosted this same tournament in Abuja, and the Nigerian female team emerged winners and picked the only tickets to represent Africa in Portugual.
The players are being motivated , physically ,technically, psychologically and financially and otherwise .
Team Nigerian have been putting in their best so far in the competition by beating Egpyt 3-0 in the male category on wednesday and the female team defeated Ghana 3-0. on Thursday.
In terms of world ranking , Nigeria is among countries that are been ranked and all the participating are also ranked.
A total of Six Nigeria team wheelchair tennis players are featuring in both men’s and women’s category.
Which comprises of Kafayat Omisore , Kemi Oluwasegun Foluke Shodeinde
Alex Adewale,Williams Ukari and Wasiu Yusuf
All proper arrangements have been made to make sure team Nigeria represent African in both male and female category. on Sunday 11th February at the Tennis Court of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
