Wheelchair Tennis: Nigeria Recorded First Win, Beat Egpyt 3-0

 

Nigeria Tennis team defeated their counterpart Egypt Tennis team 3-0 in the round robin Group C on Wednesday on day-one of the ongoing 2024 BNP Paribas World Team Cup Wheelchair Tennis African qualification events In Abuja.

The events which started on Wednesday and is expected to end on Sunday at the Tennis Court of Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The Nigeria team were drawn in group C alongside Egypt and Cameroon.

Alex Adewale and Terlumun Ukari of Nigeria beat Egpytian team of Abd Elrahram Salah and Hassan Emad 3-0.

In the matches played, Adewale showed class as he silenced his Egyptian opponent Abd Elrahram Salah
in the first match of the men’s singles.

His mind games put him at the forefront as he took the first set 6-0 , as fans cheered on,Adewale came charged up for the second set to win 6-0.

while Ukari in the second match of the singles also led Nigeria to victory by beating Hassan Emad of Egpyt
6 4, 6 2.

Then, Adewale and Ukari combined in the doubles match , to put up a good fight to shock Salah and Emad of Egpyt, 6 2, 6 4 to seal the maximum point 3-0 on day one.

Speaking after the match, the National Wheelchair coach of Nigeria , Frank Tarmina said that the team were well prepared and our focus is to play the big men in the competition like South Africa and Morocco.

He said that this two countries have dominated the competition in the last two years.

“ This is a big challenge for Nigeria team but with our preparation this time around we are hopeful we will beat them and quality,,” he said.

In other Group A matches Morocco , represented by Said Himam and Lhaj Boukartacha beat their counterparts Rwanda represented by Viator Dusabimana Viator and Jean Luc Dusengimana 3-0.

That a total of ten countries which includes;Nigeria ( host) ,Egypt , Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius ,Morocco, Rwanda,South Africa and Tanzania.

The events is an International Tennis Federation (ITF ) qualification event for African Countries to compete to qualify for the Wheelchair Tennis World Cup (road to Turkey 2024).

That 2024 BNP Paribas World Team Cup wheelchair tennis African qualification events is a team events that is a round robin events.

In which each country participating in the events will have to play two singles for either in men’s or women’s category and a double will be use to decide if the country win the day events.
