City Football Club (FC) of Abuja on Sunday defeated
Mailantarki Care Football Club ( FC ) 2-1 in the match Day 2 of the Northern Conference Group D of the ongoing 2023/2024 Nigeria National League (NNL).
City FC recorded their first home win in this season at the old parade grounds,Area 10 ,Football pitch in Abuja on Sunday.
4th minute into the game played, Oscar Okoh puts City FC ahead with their first goal of the NNL campaign this season.
Okoh added to his score at the 45th minute, The ferocious striker, grabs his brace by unleashed a powerful strike at Mailantariki’s goalkeeper,Gabriel Michael which cause to rebound off the surface
back to him for a beautiful rebound shot into the net.
On resumption of the second half,Both team produced a scintillating second half performances ,54th minute, Okoh scored another goal but it was disqualified because it’s was offside .
The City FC are playing one of the best games of their lives at the moment and the Mailantarki Care FC teams are in search for goal but they couldn’t convert.
Exactly,95th minute , City FC defender pass the ball to Tjijani Mohammed of Mailantarki Care FC , made use of the opportunity shot into the net .The game ended 2-1.
Speaking after the match, the City FC scorer,Oscar Okoh said that this is first appearance ,playing with City FC in NNL season and I looked forward in adding more goals as the season move on .
He said the game was a good game although before the startup of the game I had this mentality that we aren’t coming for a draw but winning.
“ We are determined to win our subsequent matches and we hope to achieved it and our targets is to get promoted to Nigeria Premier Football League ( NPFL) at the end of the season,” he said.
On his part, Richard Yamoah,City FC coach, said that , in the first half, If you see when we were leading our players were fighting for the ball, that’s the aim ,we want to see.
“ This is our first victory, we loss our first match but I appreciate my players they performed well and played according to the tactics and training instructions.
He said that the goal scored at the late seconds by Mailantanki Care FC player wasn’t expected.
“ I wasn’t expecting that goal because my defenders were relaxed and over confidence. A seconds can change a game but we are going back to our drawing boards.
“ From this levels of the league.we need to keep on winning and we don’t have to drop points,
“ We are playing Adamawa United FC in our next match,and we are not scared of them.This is City FC we are not afraid of any teams we are going to encounter,” he said.
reports that in their next encounter Match Day 3, City FC will square up with
Adamawa United FC at Patanmi stadium in Bauchi on Dec.2 . While Mailantarki Care FC will hook up with Sporting Supreme FC on Dec.2 at Area 10.
