Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN),Samuel Onikeku said they have discovered some new athletes that can groomed the Federation in France 2024 Olympics.
Onikeku told journalist at closing ceremony of the 5th edition of the One Service One Medal (OSOM) at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium that the reason for the event is to discover athletes that will represent the country in International competition.
“We have athletes that have representing the country and wining medals whenever they go for national assignment.
“It is our responsibility as the federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to give them the support they need.
“We all know that this year is a world Championships and Commonwealth Games. We must keep eyes on our athletes both home and abroad.
“We must also work on how we can groom the new talented athletes for future encounters.,”he said.
He said the aim of OSOM Games is to identify and develop high performance athletes for the country.
“To enhance and elevate sports nationally, regional and globally,” he said.
military and para military agencies that participated in OSOM Games are : Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Custom Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria
Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps among others.
15 sports feature in the this years events : Athletics, Swimming, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Tug of War, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Chess, Squash, Scrabble.
Others are Golf, Tennis, Shooting, Table Tennis and Badminton
