Nigeria Tennis Fedearation NTF Secretary, Dayo Abulude has urged wealthy tennis loving Nigerians to emulate Dovenotch Nigeria Engineering Limited by supporting the racket sport.
Abulude said this while assesing the maiden Davenotch senior Open tennis championship currently going on at the tennis courts of the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
He said if other tennis enthusiasts like Davenotch put money into the sport the players will benefit a lot by returning Nigeria to the glorious position in the past.
“Infact the Davenotch has been sponsoring Wheelchair tennis for more than 5 years and has committed another 5 years for the new tournament.
The man has really done well. If we have two or three of him doing this to tennis the Nigeria will regain its lost position in the world and continent,” he said.
He disclosed that the ongoing tournament has been devoid of any hitch with the weather been friendly and allowing the players to exhibit their skills.
The NTF scribe said the tournament will end on Saturday with the sponsor, his friends, the Minister of Sports and Permanent Secretary in attendance.
He disclosed that the semifinal of the championship will be decided in the regular and wheelchair tennis on Friday while the final comes up the following day.
“The players are particularly delighted with the tourney because the prize monies have been attractive right from the first round to the final,” he said.
The tournament will be followed by the annual CBN tennis open and another new championship in the coming weeks.
